Kanika, the first Bollywood personality to test positive for coronavirus on March 20, told PTI there have been several "wrong exchanges of information" regarding her travel timeline and battle with the disease.

'Some of these seem to be fuelled even more because I have chosen to be silent till now. I stayed quiet not because I am wrong but in-fact being fully aware that there have been misunderstandings and wrong exchanges of information. I was giving time for the truth to prevail and for people to reach their own realisation,' she said.

Kanika said there were a certain facts about her case which she wanted to clarify, starting with how every person that she came in contact with, be it in the UK, Mumbai or Lucknow has 'shown no symptoms of COVID-19, in-fact all those tested have been negative'.

'I travelled from the UK to Mumbai on March 10 and was duly screened at the international airport. There was no advisory on that day (UK travel advisory was released on 18 March) that stated that I needed to quarantine myself. I showed no ill health so did not quarantine myself.'

'On March 20 when informed that my test was positive, I chose to go to the hospital. I was discharged after there negative tests and have since been at home for 21 days.

'I want to especially thank the doctors and nurses who have so graciously taken care of me during a very emotionally testing time. I hope that all can deal with this matter with honesty and sensitivity,' Kanika Kapoor added.

Maharashtra: Govt issues preventive guidelines for essential service staff

The Maharashtra government has issued a circular stressing on the importance of social distancing, hygiene and wearing of protection gear, after some of its employees tested positive for coronavirus.

The circular issued by the public health department on Saturday said some government staff involved in the maintenance of essential services in the state have tested positive for the disease. Employees should wear masks, hand gloves and if necessary, aprons, and ensure that soap, water and hand sanitisers (with at least 60 per cent alcohol) are available at workplaces, it said. "Wash your hands applying soap and with water for at least 20 seconds before beginning your daily work. Use hand gloves then. Do not touch (your) face, eyes, nose and mouth. Avoid putting hand gloves in pockets," the circular said. The objects which are touched often, like door handles and taps, should be disinfected every two-three hours with a liquid containing one per cent sodium hypochlorite, it said. There should be a distance of at least one metre between two employees at the workplace, the circular said. "Use speaker mode while using mobile phone. Avoid contact of mobile phone with face whenever possible," it said.

Background

Coronavirus In India LIVE Updates: In his latest Mann Ki Baat address today, which was also his second such address ever since nationwide lockdown has been imposed, Prime Minister Narendra Modi talked about India’spreparedness for the Coronavirus battle. He hailed the contribution of state governments and the frontline corona warriors. However, later in the day, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi promptedPrime Minister Narendra Modi to clear "bottlenecks" and ramp up coronavirus testing in the country.
In his address to the nation, PM Modi highlighted the contribution of frontline corona warriors and the state governments in the fight against Covid-19. He also exhorted people to follow hygienic norms such as wearing masks and avoiding spitting in public places. However, he alerted people against getting negligent and said that overconfidence should not prevail among people that the virus won't reach their localities.
In the holy month of Ramzan 2020, PM asked the devotees to pray for the end of the Coronavirus pandemic so that Eid can be celebrated with full fervour. Later, taking to twitter, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi told Prime Minister Narendra Modi needs to act fast and clear the bottleneck that is stopping India from scaling testing from the current 40,000 per day to one lakh tests a day
The lockdown in Delhi will not be relaxed beyond what the union home ministry has suggested in its guidelines, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Sunday and added that his government's focus is on bringing down COVID-19 infections in the city.
He appealed to those recovered from COVID-19 to come forward and donate their plasma. However, as per WHO’s recent statement, recovery fromCoronavirus is no certificate of immunity from re-infection.
WHO stated this in a new scientific paper for the next phase of Covid-19 response, as several countries issue immunity passports to the recovered patients to get back to work to support the staggering economies.
